WHAT IS MYOFASCIAL RELEASE (MFR) TECHNIQUE
Myofascial Release (MFR) is a form of manual therapy that aims to relieve tension and pain in the fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds and supports the muscles, bones, and organs of the body. The fascia can become tight and restricted due to injury, chronic stress, poor posture, or repetitive motions, leading to the development of myofascial pain.
Myofascial Release therapy involves the application of gentle, sustained pressure to the affected areas, with the goal of releasing the tight fascia and restoring its natural elasticity and flexibility. The therapist uses their hands, fingers, or elbows to apply pressure to the fascia, either directly or through the skin, until a release is felt. This can be accompanied by stretching, , or other forms of manual therapy to help facilitate the release.
MFR can be helpful in the treatment of myofascial pain for several reasons:
Reduces fascia tension: By applying sustained pressure to tight fascia, MFR can help to reduce tension and stiffness in the affected areas, promoting relaxation and pain relief.
Improves range of motion: By releasing restrictions in the fascia, MFR can improve flexibility and range of motion, allowing for greater ease of movement and reduced pain.
Enhances circulation: MFR can improve circulation to the affected areas, which can help to reduce inflammation and promote healing.
Reduces stress: MFR has been shown to be effective in reducing stress and promoting relaxation, which can help to reduce muscle tension and pain.
It’s important to note that Myofascial Release is just one of many approaches to treating myofascial pain, and the best approach for an individual will depend on the cause and severity of their symptoms, as well as any other underlying medical conditions. It is always best to consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment plan.
