Physiotherapy for
Back Pain
Expert physiotherapy for acute and chronic back pain, slipped disc, sciatica, and post-surgical spine rehabilitation — across 15 centres in Delhi, Gurugram, Pune & Greater Noida. Most patients experience significant relief within 3–6 sessions.
Why Physiotherapy Is the First-Line Treatment for Back Pain
Back pain is the single most common reason people visit a physiotherapist — and for good reason. Unlike pain medication which only masks symptoms, physiotherapy addresses the root cause of back pain: muscle imbalance, poor posture, disc pathology, joint stiffness, or nerve irritation.
With the right assessment and targeted treatment, most patients avoid surgery entirely. Early intervention is critical — acute back pain that is left untreated frequently becomes chronic, which is far harder and more expensive to resolve.
📋 Did you know? Research shows that physiotherapy is as effective as surgery for most disc herniations and degenerative spine conditions — and with far fewer risks, costs, and recovery time.
Types of Back Pain We Treat
Sudden onset back pain from a muscle strain, awkward movement, or lifting injury. Highly responsive to early physiotherapy — most cases resolve within 2–4 weeks.
Back pain lasting more than 3 months. Often involves muscle deconditioning, central sensitisation, and postural dysfunction. Requires a structured rehabilitation programme.
Disc prolapse causing nerve root compression, leg pain (sciatica), or localised back pain. McKenzie method, neural mobilisation, and DTS decompression are highly effective.
Back pain from prolonged sitting, poor workstation setup, or occupational loading. Ergonomics assessment, posture correction, and movement re-education.
Our Back Pain Treatment Approach
Every patient presenting with back pain at our centres receives a thorough assessment — not a generic protocol. We identify the specific structures involved, the contributing factors, and the functional goals most relevant to that patient's life.
📋 Our approach is rooted in the F-MATS framework (Functional Movement Analysis & Treatment Strategy), developed by Dr. Dharam Pandey. This systematic method identifies the biomechanical and neurological drivers of back pain and designs a targeted, progressive treatment plan.
Treatments Used for Back Pain
Joint mobilisation, manipulation, soft tissue techniques and myofascial release for immediate pain relief and mobility restoration.
Directional preference exercises that centralise and eliminate referred leg pain from disc herniation. Evidence-based and highly effective.
Non-surgical spinal decompression traction for disc herniations, stenosis, and chronic lower back pain.
Progressive deep stabiliser and core muscle training to create long-term spinal support and prevent recurrence.
TENS, interferential therapy, and ultrasound to reduce pain, inflammation, and muscle spasm.
Workstation assessment, movement re-education, and postural correction to address causative factors and prevent recurrence.
Sciatica & Referred Leg Pain
Sciatica — pain radiating from the lower back into the buttock, thigh, and leg — is one of the most common presentations of disc herniation or spinal stenosis. It is caused by compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve roots.
Physiotherapy is the gold standard treatment for sciatica. Our approach includes:
- McKenzie directional preference exercises — to centralise and eliminate leg pain
- Neural mobilisation — gentle nerve gliding techniques to reduce nerve tension
- Lumbar mobilisation — restoring joint movement and reducing nerve compression
- DTS spinal decompression — for severe or persistent disc-related sciatica
- Core strengthening — to stabilise the lumbar spine and prevent recurrence
Spondylosis, Spondylitis & Degenerative Spine
Degenerative spine conditions — including cervical and lumbar spondylosis, ankylosing spondylitis, and spondylolisthesis — are common causes of chronic back and neck pain, especially in working adults over 35. Physiotherapy cannot reverse the degeneration but can significantly reduce pain, improve mobility, and prevent deterioration through targeted exercise and manual therapy.

Following spinal surgery — whether a discectomy, laminectomy, spinal fusion, or microdiscectomy — structured physiotherapy is essential for a safe and full recovery. Our post-surgical protocols are phase-based:
- Phase 1 (0–6 weeks): Wound healing protection, gentle mobilisation, breathing exercises, early walking
- Phase 2 (6–12 weeks): Progressive range of motion, core activation, scar management, postural training
- Phase 3 (3–6 months): Full core rehabilitation, functional strengthening, return to work/sport
Home Physiotherapy for Back Pain — Delhi & NCR
For patients who cannot travel to a centre — due to severe pain, elderly age, or post-surgical restrictions — our specialist physiotherapists provide home visits across all of Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad. Home treatment is particularly effective in the early acute phase and post-surgically when travel is difficult.
- Back pain with loss of bladder or bowel control (cauda equina emergency)
- Back pain with fever, unexplained weight loss, or night sweats
- Back pain following significant trauma (fall, accident)
- Progressive neurological weakness in legs (foot drop, inability to walk)
- Back pain in someone with a history of cancer
Back Pain Prevention — Long-Term Strategies
The most effective treatment for back pain is preventing its recurrence. At the conclusion of your treatment programme, our physiotherapists will provide:
- A personalised home exercise programme with progressive core strengthening
- Ergonomics guidance for your workstation, driving position, and sleeping posture
- Activity modification advice and movement strategies for daily tasks
- Education on warning signs that warrant early intervention
